Hey there guys DJ Dizzy here & this is my interview with singer Lyn Ralph. Enjoy!
Q1
I first started out in music learning Guitar at 7 years old and Trombone at 9 years old. I went to a wonderful music Centre every Saturday called The Centre for Young Musicians (C.Y.M).
I then did a Music Degree and when I finished studying, I had a job as an Usherette for the West End Show ‘Starlight Express’ - my workmates there discovered that I was a Musician and I ended up joining my first girl band ‘Pretty D-Fine’ and then joined a band with my male friends called ‘Streaky Bacon.’
After this, I depped on Trombone for
‘The Incredibly Strange Film Band and function band ‘Baregroove’ and before this, for Funk band ‘All the President’s Men.’
I was classically trained on Trombone, so was lucky enough to do Orchestral tours to Spain, Italy and Prague.
A few years after the tours, a friend put me in touch with a studio and my first EP
(‘Travelled Tales’), came out in 2013 and then years later, this year (2021), I started to produce my own music under my own label
‘Caramel Music’.
Q2
I feel inspired by my own feelings, life events, my own creative imagination/fictional events, Films
- I am a real Movie buff! My influences include many but I’ll mention a few for you Dizzy. :-) Funny enough, a couple of fans likened my Folk music to Nick Drake who I’d only begun listening to in 2020 so this was such a wonderful, so here goes with some of my influences :-) Richard Thompson, John Martyn, Nick Drake, RYX.
I’ve also recently produced Experimental Ambient and Synthwave music but have no particular influences yet in this genre (although my latest track ‘Beyond the Galaxy’ is like the movie ‘Drive’ has met ‘Bladerunner!’).
Q3
I’d advise Artists new to the industry, to make sure they build connections and treat the genuine connections they make like gold dust! It’s rare to find, as there are sadly those who exploit!
I’ve been so lucky in building strong connections with really successful and respectable Artists and contacts such as Trish Whelan, Steve Ellis, Golddigger, Basedriver, Nunnyboy, Knowgood, 5Samuel, Byron Smith, Big Deals Bills, Vox Jane and Des from The Marketing Academy.
Make sure you reach out and check in with your fans and followers regularly - do a mailing list and try to send something by e-mail weekly
(or however frequently suits your schedule), just to keep your Musical supporters in the loop with what you’re up to musically and to show them that you truly appreciate their loyalty.
Ask for support with your posts being shared, RT’d, or music downloaded or asking supporters to buy now, it will be beneficial to the potential growth of your music being heard by new listeners. There’s also sites like Kofi too where you can get support from your supporters .
Reach out to Bloggers and Radio Stations! All support is there.
Also, look out for my Tweets under @LynMusician as I tweet recommendations from time-to-time and if you’re still reading this, feel welcome to DM me with your email address if you’d like to be added to my mailing list.
Most importantly, if you’re offered opportunities, keep positive but don’t feel pressured to rush into things, weigh up all pros and cons first before making decisions.
Other than that, trust your gut and your heart is my final piece of advice to you.
Q4
I am an independent Singer-Songwriter and Musician. I write all of my tracks and perform on all of my tracks and since 2021 now produce my tracks! I write a broad spectrum of genres to keep things creative. E.g Cinematic, Folk, Electronica, Ambient and now Experimental/Synthwave.
I also created the hashtag #EverGratefulArtist# since 2020.
Q5 Due to Covid, I’ve no gigs lined up just yet but my debut EP was ‘Travelled Tales’ (2013) released on Bandcamp www.lynrajah.bandcamp.com
My latest tracks were ‘Americana’ re-released in December, 2020, ‘Horizon’ released 5th March, 2021 and ‘Beyond the Galaxy’ released on the 26th March, 2021.
I am now working on a new track ‘Voyager’ which will be out later this year. I won’t say more than that for now, I’ll keep you all in suspense til nearer the time of release! :-)
Special thanks to her for doing this interview & I wish her luck in her music. So until then I'll catch you on The Flipside! stay awesome & rock n roll!
