How'd you get started in music? My mom says I was singing in the car as a baby... Just loved hearing rock n roll on the radio and imitating the heroes of the day. Started singing in cover bands as a sophomore in high school at 15 years old... Got a bass for my 16th and never looked back.
Who are your inspirations or influences? The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who... then Tom Petty, The Cars, etc until I heard AC/DC and BOOM! Hard rock + metal became the major defining factor. I absolutely LOVE The Cult, Metallica, and King's X, too. As I've matured as a writer, all these styles are evidenced in our songs... Pop writing and vocals intersecting with hard-rock production. The greatest compliment I ever received happened just recently when a friend who is a writer and a huge music fan said we reminded him of a cross between The Beatles and Metallica... Mission accomplished!
What advice would offer aspiring performers? Never give up! Keep going, no matter what. Write what you know and record every single chance you get.How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers? We record what WE love. We don't concern ourselves with what other peopole think when writint or recording MUSIC. We work VERY hard at being honest with ourselves about lyrics, especially. Eventually the unique ideas come out and shine through while recording them. Those songs are the ones that get released.Any new gigs or albums in the future - NO and YES. Gigs are obvioulsy a big question for a while. Holy Smoke are finishing 5 more songs and a cover song for digital/streaming release over the next several months. We have a really fun political-punk rock-rant song, 'Stephen Colbert For President', that will be released in September to coincide with the US election campaigns. We hope to wrap up all the singles into physical product for merch sales at shows, when that happens again. We have feature videos coming out for 'Is This America', our debut single 'Tuned In (Antenna Up)', and the aforementioned forthcoming single. We're really busy!
Special thanks to them for doing this interview & lots of luck to them in their music so until then I'll catch you on the flipside! Stay awesome & rock n roll!
