DJ Interviews: Jens Bosecker(Mr. Wawa)

Here's my interview with fellow DJ, Jens Bosecker, AKA  Mr. Wawaenjoy!

How'd you get started in music?

Even as a small child, I thrilled my family with my dance routines; Once the music came on, I might even drive her crazy. I learned piano and guitar. I was often a DJ at our legendary school parties. I started living music early on.

Who are your inspirations or influences?

My main influences are 80s and 90s pop culture as well as jazz music and African rhythms. I am also a big fan of classical music.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists?

Follow your heart and do what suits you best with passion. We are all influenced by the music of previous generations and grow up with many new trends. Of course everyone has their role models, but I don't think you should emulate them. Your own style, your authenticity coupled with hard work will pay off sooner or later.

How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers??

I am a songwriter, music and film producer and DJ. These different perspectives are also reflected in my music. A touch of pop, Afrobeat, electronica and jazz elements characterize the songs and create an atmosphere that can have a sensual, relaxing but also stimulating effect on the listener.

Any new gigs or albums in the future?

A best-of album with two new bonus tracks is planned for 2024. Dates for public appearances will be announced here:

DJ Intervies: The Fraed

Here's my interview with Fred Weingartner a.k.a. The Fraed as he sat down with me to discuss his musical origins.

Ad 1.

I'm from Vienna, Austria and have been making music basically my whole life. Had an education in classical music from very young age (flute), switched later to Jazz and Rock (bass, vocals). As a kid, I even played in an ensemble for traditional alpine folk music :-)

Ad 2.

My brother – who used to buy me records for christmas/birthday HE wanted to hear. Thats how I came in contact with acts like Woodstock, The Band, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix or Sly and the family Stone.

Johann Sebastian Bach – who influenced me not only as a flutist but also my bass-playing due to his mathematical precision.

Prince. One of my all time favorites. A genius.

Ad 3.

Listen to critique, even when served in an unfriendly way. Do your thing and do not stop learning. From others as well as mastering your instruments.

Ad 4. I no longer make any compromises producing my music. I try the best I can and I am grateful for any assistance but I control the entire process: from songwriting to recording and publishing. This delays things but art sometimes also needs time to mature.

ad 5.

After years as a studio and session artist, I am currently preparing an album (...to be published early next year).
To support the release, we are in the early stages of building a social media presence with some older tracks.

Special thanks to him for this interview & I wish him lots of lck in his music so until then I'll catch you on The Flipside! Stay frosty & rock n roll!!

DJ Interviews: Steve Gaspár of the Hollywood Allstar Band

Hey there one & all its your old friend DJ Dizzy here & I had the pleasure of sitting down with none other than Steve Gaspár of the band The Hollywood Allstars as he spoke with me on his musical beginnings. Enjoy!

How'd you get started in music?

My father was a classical musician, trombonist with several major symphony orchestras, including Chicago, Dallas and later the New Haven and Bridgeport Symphonies when he settled in Connecticut. When I was just four and a half years old, he decided it was time for me to start piano lessons. I was basically a classically trained pianist, until that fateful evening when I saw The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. That changed my life and started me on my Pop/R&B/Rock keyboard quest. I’ve basically been involved in music my whole life.

Who are your inspirations or influences?

When I was young and starting out in classical music, I loved Fredrick Chopin, Beethoven and later George Gershwin. My Rock / R&B Hammond Organ influences have been Greg Rollie from Santana, Chester Thompson from Tower of Power, Mark Stein from Vanilla Fudge and Felix Cavaliere from The Rascals, to name just the immediate ones who come to mind. The sound of a Hammond Organ has always resonated with me. My songwriting influences are all over the place from David Foster to Lennon and McCartney.

What advice would you offer aspiring performers?

The music business has always been difficult and with the advent of technology has gotten even more so. That’s just an overwhelming amount of “Content”. You have to make music that YOU like, and don’t hope for anything more. The odds of something catching on and going viral are about the same or less as winning the lottery. If you love what you do, then rock on!

How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers?

The Hollywood Allstars are kind of a throw back to big bands. We’re a thirteen piece group, with a horn section, percussionist and several vocalists. We’re kind of an anomaly in an age where everyone is cutting back. It’s difficult on the touring side of things, however I feel a responsibility to this kind of music, and am determined to stay true to my vision. My feeling is that if someone is going to be gracious enough to download or buy our record, and then come to see us live, I want to give them the same experience live that they heard on the record.

Any new gigs or albums in the future?

We’re always writing and recording and working on shows, so the simple answer is yes. I want to send a big shout out to all our fans, and thank them for their support. It really does mean the world to us. We couldn’t do it without you!

Special thnks to Steve for doing this interview & to him & his band happy holidays & lots of luck in their music To learn more about The Hollywood Allstars you can vusut their website in the link down below & also lsiten to their newset tunes. So until then I'll catch you on The Flipside!

Stay frosty, rock n roll & Happy Holidays!

Dizzy's Soapbox: The Story of Radio AAHS a.k.a AAHS World Radio

Hey there guys, DJ Dizzy here & this time around I want to talk about something that's been on my mind, I've been reminiiscing about some stuff from my childhood that of some radio stations from when I was growing up.

When I was little there was a local station in my hometown of Minneapolis called Radio Ahhs which was a radio station dedicated to playing kids music it was meant for both older & younger kids in general & its tagline was 'Great Music For Great Kids' & they meant it. Besides being the first & only station meant for kids one thing that really set it apart was that this was a station that was on the AM dial  (AM 1280 to be exact.) Usually the radio stations on the AM dial were all talk & news radio & you rarely ever got some that played music especially where I grew up. (There was another AM station that played classic R&B but that's about it.)

Radio Ahhz would prove to be a big hit amongst its local listeners so much so that it even spawned some CDs of their most popular tunes. In fact I remember going to school & the teachers would put it on for us & we'd jam out to it at times. They also gained critical acclaim from many parents because of its family friendly content it also featured decent prizes & give aways that focused more on education & there were some kids who acted as the deejays next to adults which was also a plus for both parents & teachers alike.

Soon after it was rebranded into Ahhs World Radio in an attempt to expand their listner's base But in the year of 1996 another station came along that of Radio Disney (Which was AM 1440) & that's when a battle for the airwaves began only for Ahhs World Radio to lose due to declining ratings & listnership & soon bankruptcy. (See the following video Battle For The Airwaves for details.) In time Radio Disney would become the only kids station on the AM dial to be geared toward teens & tweens featuring many teen pop artists in the late 90s & early 2000s, only to further change theor format later on & increse their brand more & more & extend to satelite radio.

Now as for me I was more into Radio AHHS because it had so much to go on next to decent music they also had some good shows to go on as regardless of weeks ir weekends morning or night. It was like there was a special friend that was always there for you via the airwaves to make you day & gave you some comfort from a hard day.

So my final thoughts would be this was a real treat for kids to listen to & if you had the pleasure of listening to either of these stations on whatever radio affliate ythat carried either of them then consider yourself  lucky that you got to listen to them. To be honest it was very rare that you'd come across a radio station that was aimed towards kids epsecially to be featured on the AM dial like both of them were but to be honest it would be nice to see some kids radio stations to make a comeback although there's Kidz Bop let's be honest they're just kid friedly versions of popular songs, at least with a kids radio station you got a lot of variety & it gave kids something to listen to when there wasn't anything else to do be it satelite radio, Music Choice or anything else.

To learn more about either of these stations check out the following video in the link below. Until then I'll catch you on The Flipside. Stay frosty & rock n roll!
