DJ Interviews: Charlie Andrew

Here's my interview with Charlie Andre

How'd you get started in music?

We kind of got started by doing covers and playing at school shows, after a while we started playing regular gigs at an art cafe called ‘7 Miles Out’ and gradually we would add a few original songs to the set.

Who are your inspirations or influences?

We have loads of influences from multiple different genres and to name a few would be the smiths, new order, Bowie and the stone roses. These artists are all big inspirations to us as well as bands like the 1975 as they have become one of the biggest bands in the world and are from Wilmslow which is only round the corner, obviously this makes them an inspiration to us as it makes local bands like us believe we can do it as well.

What advice would you offer aspiring performers?

Whenever we talk to bands who have just started playing gigs we always say ‘Don’t get too drunk’. We learnt that the hard way when just before we played, we drank a bottle of whiskey in the toilets and played horrifically. Sometimes it’s good to have a couple of drinks (if you do drink)  before you go on stage to calm your nerves but it can be risky and you need to make sure that you're not overdoing it as people are paying to see you so you want to make it worth their money.

How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers?

I feel like what sets us apart from other bands is that we are actually best friends, we have been playing together for almost 10 years just because we love making music together. I think that bond sets us apart from other bands.

Any new gigs or albums in the future?

We are always writing songs so we will be going back into the studio as soon as we can and hopefully release a new single at the start of next year. And the plan is to keep on gigging, capping off the year with a headline show in Manchester

Special thanks to him for doing this interview & I wish hom lots of luck in his music. So until then I'll catch you on The Flipside! Stay awesome & rock n roll!
