DJ Interviews: Cross Wires

Heres my interview with the band Cross Wires

How'd you get started in music?

We’ve all been in different bands individually before Cross Wires from teenage punk bands to more serious stuff. Personally it was seeing Blur that made me want it bee it a band.

Who are your inspirations or influences?

As mentioned previously Blur have been a big influence on me but there’s loads of artists that have left an impression on me and somehow found a way in to my songwriting even if it’s not obvious to people listening - Bowie, Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Cure, The Doors, Interpol, Joy Division, Magazine, The National, Nick Cave, Pulp, The Strokes, Wire…

What advice would you offer aspiring performers?
1) Don’t try to hard to copy current trends. 2) You’ll get better. 3) Be kind to sound engineers, promoters, other bands.

How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers?

There’s loads of great music about at the moment despite what people say so it’s really tough to grab peoples attention. We really concentrate on quality control now so every song has to be better or at least as strong as stuff we already have to end up on an album etc or it gets binned. I think we are a really great live band and I think that always wins people over.

Any new gigs or albums in the future

We’ve just finished our second album and it’s being mixed as we speak. That will be out next year with the first single taken from it coming out soon. Our next gig is at The Old Queens Head in Islington, London on 14th September.
