DJ Interviews: Circus Redux

Hello there everyone DJ Dizzy here & I had the honor of interviewing a band who call themselves Circus Redux who had so much to share about their musical beginnings.

How'd you get started in music?
For me (Luther, guitar/vocals) it was Duran Duran! As a bored suburban teen I would have killed to trade places with Andy Taylor. I got my first guitar not long after that.

Who are your inspirations or influences?
Between us it’s quite a wide range. With me it probably started with The Cure and the Bunnymen through to bands like Levitation, The God Machine, Six by Seven, Mogwai and British Sea Power. For Mobty (bass) is a massive Cardiacs fan, along with Bowie and The Smiths. Kev (guitar) loves bands like Sonic Youth, Girlband and Fontaines DC, while John (drums) is into bands like the Jesus and Mary Chain.

What advice would offer aspiring performers?
Just make the music you’d want to hear. Let’s face it, nobody makes money out of being in a band anymore so do it because you love it!

How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers?
Probably by not tying ourselves to a specific genre, if we come up with something we like then that’s good enough for us, plus we tend to have improvised parts live that can go anywhere so every time is different.

Any new gigs or albums in the future

Yeah, we had a lot of plans this year until pestilence and plague pressed the pause button. There will definitely be an album next year plus we will be working with someone we all admire, probably a new EP, all being well. We’re working on live bookings at the moment too, hopefully 2021 will be a busy year!

Special thanks to them for this interview, Until then I'll catch you on The Flipside! Stay awesome & rock n roll!
