DJ Interviews: The Black Bullets

Hello one & all Its your good friend the DJ bringing you another interview with a band named The Black Bullets who had a lot to say about their success,  This is their story:

Answer 1:

I personally got started playing music back when I was 15 / 16.. I’d go sit in the school music block at lunch and watch my friend, Sam, jammin on his guitar to Marilyn Manson and Korn tracks. He was that cool kid at school ya know? White boy with dreads, playing nu metal, and he was sound as a pound.  He started teaching me some things and even lent me a guitar to learn on, before finally getting my own twanger to strum.  I went on learning loads of power chord pop punk / drop D nu metal (It was the 90’s after all)

I carried on jammin on my own until I found myself in my first band at 19, when I joined forces with Mr Lance Skybaby, playing bass, funnily enough


Answer 2:

Over the years, I’ve acquired a lot of influences / heroes / inspirations.

Meatloaf’s theatrics and stage show used to blow me away as a kid by just the passion of this one guy, his performance and how he was immersed in his music, in every performance.  Guilty pleasure, but t’s the truth  

As for guitar influences, I’m a huge fan of Joan Jett’s way of playing - The whole “less is more” thing, its all in the groove and the spaces to breathe between the notes - Cant go wrong!

I’m also a huge Dregen fan for the same reasons. I’m pretty sure he would give Joan Jett a nod, too, if he had to answer this question.  Both legendary bad asses  

I also give props to Tom Delonge of Blink 182, again for his simple power chord picking riffs - showed me how many great songs 3 guys could make out of just 3 or 4 chords, yet somehow kept it interesting.  They just seemed to have some fun with it back then... and how could I forget Tim Armstrong of Rancid? That guy just looked cool as sh££t!

The way he played that low slung Gretsch , just ripping away at the top 3 frets.. he was so cool to watch in action, just makes you wanna move, man!

Answer 3:

My advice to other aspiring artists would be -  Don't give up if you believe in yourself, because you’ll forever be wondering if the following year could be the year you would have blown up. Keep grinding!

Also don’t be afraid of new things when you write, don't get caught in the loop, look at as many genres as possible to draw influences from, lets keep it interesting!

And one last word of advice - If you’re feeling like you’re not getting anywhere, just take a second to look back at how far you’ve come, and what you’ve already acheived.

Answer 4:

Cool stuff in The Bullets cam to look forward to would be our upcoming show on 7th December, with The Crybabys at The Hope and Anchor, London.

Next year we will be playing with the mighty Wildhearts, and The Virgin Marys at Call of The Wild Festival - gonna be off the hook!

And finally w are hoping to finish our debut album in 2019.
