Hello everyone one & all DJ Dizzy here & I have had the pleasure of interviewing a musician who answers to P Wasy

ow'd you get started in music?

I’ve been playing piano since I was a kid, went through the whole Royal Conservatory of Music world, did the Exams, the Theory, the Music Festivals, all of it. Turned to teaching quite a few years ago, and composing just recently—last 3 years.

Who are your inspirations or influences?

Classical Influences would have to include Debussy/Chopin/Erik Satie/Ravel to my fav Prince & Bowie, Glenn Gould, Yann Tiersen, Eminem, Bruno Mars, just so many

What advice would offer aspiring performers?

Get networking. Support other people as well as yourself. Twitter/Soundcloud/Insta. Everyone goes through times where things may seem like they’re going nowhere, and then the next day you get some awesome lift from someone on Twitter out of the blue. Every day is a new day, and it’s full of potential.  Just don’t stop, keep practicing, keep learning, only release work that is your best the competition is too fierce to put out something that is just ‘adequate’.  Just keep on keeping on.

How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers?

My gig is that I’m a Studio Rat. I love to do in-studio collaborations.  I write and perform piano tracks, that Electronic Producers then take and manipulate and create something amazing! I love all my collab partners, I learn something from everyone on every app!

Any new gigs or albums in the future

Yes! July 24.2020, ‘Somehow’ is releasing, the lovely Clare Estelle sings this beautiful ethereal ballad, & I’ve written and performed the piano Arrangement. This one’s a tear jerker, but we had a lot of fun working on it together.  We have a blast on Twitter with our banter too, just a couple of girlfriends on there haha!

Later this summer, Kike de Santo and I have teamed up again for a track that is Pool Party Ready!! It’s an high octane Instrumental with a surprise Vocal….:):) has this massive high energy Summer Feel-good Vibe. So fun! Can hardly wait for it to drop mid August.

Hey there everyone DJ Dizzy here & I had the pleasure of meeting a band called The Counteracts who had a lot to say on their musical beginnings.

How'd you get started in music?

Simon, Vocals & Bass, first got into music whilst still at school, where he helped form The Contacts, and he has also permormed with a covers band, The Ghostriders. 

 

Doug, Keyboards, was a classically trained pianist since the age of 8, but he's only been writing, recording and collaborating with various other musicians since 2010, contributing to Bands including GLAD, SilverSmith and The Contacts.

Who are your inspirations or influences?

Simon - The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Kinks, Buddy Holly, B52's

Doug - Queen, Progressive Rock, 80s Electronica

What advice would you offer aspiring performers?

Make sure you are having fun, and write your songs for yourself, rather than what you think your audience wants.

How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers?

Our music has little or no guitar in it. Where we think guitar is required, we either do it ourselves, or collaborate with guitarist friends. Our output is also 50% originals, 50% covers, which is quite unusual, but it keeps us fresh, and open to new ideas, as we often cover songs that our fans request.

Any new gigs or albums in the future

We are currently working on an album for release in 2020, which will be a follow-up to our debut, 'The Curse Of The Counteracts'

Hey everyone DJ Dizzy here & I had the esteemed pleasure of interviewing an artist who answers to the name of 3 Blind Blight who had much to say on their musical beginnings.

When I was nine years old we received an out of tune Piano. By learning how to tune and use it....it lead to a love for music. That later lead to learning Guitar Singing etc.

I create music in all genres.Often times blending two or more genres into each song.

Hey there guys DJ Dizzy here & I met a band who call themselves Portobello Express as they share their musical beginnings.

How'd you get started in music?

 

Happy Betty: I come from a family where music always played a huge role. At 8 I started studying piano and I officially joined my first band at 16 as backing vocalist. At 20 I had my own soul band; meanwhile I started playing bass in other bands. I never stopped since then. I don’t even remember in how many bands I played in, both as singer and as bassist.

Patrick Slowhand: I started playing guitar at the age of 14. I was driven by the idea of playing in a band like The Who, the Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones. At 17 I joined a local sixties R’N’B band called The Jaybirds. The rest is history you will find on Wikipedia!

 

 

Who are your inspirations or influences?

 

HB: as singer, Gospel, Blues and Soul are my musical background. My vocal coach for 5 years long was an Afro-American gospel singer from Chicago. But I am very much into the West Coast psychedelic sound,too. My inspirations: Grace Slick, Sandy Danny, Tina Turner just to name a few.  As bassist, I like it as hard & heavy as possible: from psych rock to proto metal I am always on board for it!

 

PS: I am influenced by the British R’n’B & Blues boom and by the British invasion; I’m also into psych and heavy rock.

 

 

What advice would offer aspiring performers?

 

It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll. Nevermind if you don’t make a living with the music; be always highly professional, be straight, improve yourself every day. Don’t sell yourself short but also avoid becoming presumptuous. Stay committed to your decisions but stay flexible in your approach. And stay genuine!

 

 

How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers?

 

We all come from different musical styles: psych & hard rock, R’n’B, sixties pop, garage. Portobello Express sound is a very special blend of all this. So, if you enjoy solid vintage and retro melodies, we are the band for you. In addition, the lyrics are peculiar: ironic- to some extent sarcastic- and no love songs in store for the moment.

 

Any new gigs or albums in the future?

 

Due to the world pandemic situation, we haven’t planned any future show yet. We will enter soon the recording studio for a couple of songs we wrote during the lockdown. If money allows, more tracks are to come.

DJ Interviews: The Shrubs

Hey there everyone Its your old friend the DJ & I have had the pleasure of interviewing a band who calls themselves The Shrubs as they had a lot to hare on their success. (I spoke with their bassust whose name is RJ.)

How'd you get started in music?

RJ - I got started in music, rock music that is, when a high school friend of mine lent me his old bass guitar and a small amp.  I started learning everything on my own by listening to Pink Floyd, the Beatles and Peter Frampton.  Those were all albums that my older brothers had.  I would sit there and play for hours.  I learned all the bass lines to Dark Side of the Moon and Frampton Comes Alive albums as well as many, many Beatles songs.  I used to jam with friends but nothing ever developed from that.  I really started to feel like a musician when I met Spike and we formed The Shrubs.

Who are your inspirations or influences?

I had a lot of inspirations, but the first three I already stated above.  I got into the Police and Rush right about the time I started jamming with Spike.  I also used to listen to Jaco Pastorious when he was with Weather Report and Stanley Clarke when he was with Return to Forever, but they were way above my pay grade as far as playing.  I still feel that they influenced me a lot.  The other guys have different influences and that really helps us gel as musicians and makes us more unique as we don't try to imitate any particular band.

What advice would offer aspiring performers?

It's so much easier to get your music out than it was when we started writing our own stuff.  We originally started recording on a 4-track cassette.  We had some outboard equipment like compressors and effects, but it took a lot of work.  We were lucky if we could get people from the next town over to hear our stuff and forget about radio.  We would have never gotten our music on the radio back then. Nowadays, there are so many software programs that can give you everything in one package to record and master your own music (though I don't suggest mastering your own music).  Now we have friends and followers that listen to our music worldwide and online radio stations that have our stuff in rotation.  Keep recording and getting your stuff out there.  Keep producing and building buzz.  The down side of easily getting your music out there is that there are so many bands putting stuff out that it's tough to get noticed.  I run our social media for Twitter and Instagram as well as sharing the administration of our Facebook page with Spike.  It's hard work.   I work full time, but running social media is almost like having a second full time job.  Start out building followers, reach out to online radio stations, befriend other bands and share the glory with them.  They know the pain and we help lift each other up.  Some of our earliest band friends now have record deals.  We are also in the running for a record deal.  Be kind, be sympathetic.  I actually drew some song writing inspiration from reading other follower's trials and tribulations.   Use the on line promotion tools that you can afford.  Some are better than others.  Find a band that is similar to yours and follow some of their followers.  Sometimes you'll get really energetic followers by doing that.

How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers?

We had written three albums of original music way back and we had many that were not on the albums.  Our music was always upbeat and fast moving with a couple of exceptions.  Our first album was basically updated versions of our old music.  We never really took ourselves seriously and were always joking around.  That in itself managed to draw in some dedicated followers.  Our sound draws from many influences, but as stated above, the core is really unique.  One time I tweeted out a question about what our stuff sounded like and got back many different band names, no two answers were the same.

Any new gigs or albums in the future

Unfortunately, I moved out to San Diego sometime back and the band went on hiatus for a while.  The rest of the band stayed in the upstate New York Ithaca-Cortland area.  That and the current situation has made it impossible to play out for now.  We did make a Zoom call video playing our song What You Do to Me acoustically.  That's the closest we've come to playing live in a long time.  We currently have 3 songs in production at various stages.  One called Equation of Love is getting ready to have the final guitars and vocals recorded.  Another we just started to record that is still a work in progress.   The third has most of the words written and needs some music to go along with it.

Hi there everyone its The DJ coming at you with a band who call themselves Drawing On Scars as they shared their musical beginnings. So pull up a chair & give a listen!

How'd you get started in music?

I had an interest in the guitar since I was really young, but Nirvana really got me to get into playing music. Right after their Unplugged show aired on MTV, I received a beat up acoustic guitar from my grandparents for Christmas and started teaching myself how to play from magazines and such. Then around 2001, I downloaded some free recording software and started writing and recording my own music. 

Who are your inspirations or influences?

Nirvana was obviously the first and biggest influence for me. Other bands like Deftones, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Filter and Hum have also shaped my style over the years. 

What advice would offer aspiring performers?

Spend your time practicing whatever instrument you play and writing as much as possible. Social media, fans, followers, and all of that don't mean anything if your music isn't good. And have fun. If you don't like what you're doing, listeners will be able to tell.

How do you set yourselves apart from other bands or singers?

We're a band with only one official member. At one time, that was extremely unique, but there are a ton of people working this way now. The advantage is that I get to work with a number of awesome vocalists which has been great. 

Any new gigs or albums in the future?

We have a new single coming out July 10th, and a few more singles following that later in the year.

DJ Interviews: Forest Hills

Hi there folks, Its your old friend DJ Dizzy here & I had recently sat down with a band who call themselves Forest Hills as they shared their success.

1) Each of us got started in music when we were very young. Our drummer, Jack, first started with piano lessons when he was a child. Later on, he became interested in drums and began learning those. Our singer, Zero, self-taught himself all the instruments he plays. He has been singing since he could speak, but really started writing songs at age 12.

2) As a band, we purposefully do not have any specific influences. This is because as soon as you acknowledge a specific artist or band as an influence, your music inherently begins to sound like a variation of their work, rather than like something unique or original that you could've made yourself. We don't see anything wrong with other bands or artists having influences, but that isn't something that fits with Forest Hills. We create our own original content, we don't try to sound like anyone else.

3) We would advise aspiring performers to keep working hard and stay determined! Practice makes progress, and success doesn't happen overnight. Just keep chipping away and eventually, things will start to turn around. 

4) Our band is a duo which consists of two members: Zero Surico and Jack Burton. Zero does everything in our band except the drums, and Jack does the drums. Not only is our band unique in the way it operates and the duties of each individual member, but our sound has a lot of variety. From the use of rap, screaming, and gothic melodies, to the heavy guitars and progressive percussion, Forest Hills brings a new twist to the rock genre that's never been heard quite like this before. 

5) Our second album "Renegade" releases on August 1st, 2020. We are still performing via Livestream concerts on platforms like Instagram (@ForestHills_Band) and YouTube (youtube.com/foresthillsofficialband), but we are saving in-person performances for after COVID-19 is over and things are safe again. We would never put our fans in danger by hosting a live show before things are safe. Our next Livestream concert is for free on July 1st, at 12am EST on our Instagram!
